Camp Tawonga is an organized Summer Camp facility near Groveland California which has been undergoing various expansion and improvement projects. Land & Structure provided land surveying, design and structural engineering for the development of a cabin area expansion including bunk houses, bathroom building and gazebo gathering area.

This project aimed for simple and durable construction methods that were in line with the existing facilities and the basic nature of the camp environment. Navigating the paired back requirements of the Camp within the restrictions of the building code was one of the challenges. The site provides accessibility but without paved trails, buildings have very minimal electrical and no conditioning.

Heavy timber framing is a trait of the existing camp and was utilized in the exposed framing of porches and roof systems in this expansion.

DC Engineering provided the mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for the bathroom building and the project was constructed by local contractor Peter Fischer Construction.
